YOUR Club Needs YOUR Help - Right NOW!!
Saturday 26 December 2009

By Trevor Mulligan

Wands Chairman, Gary Hillman, has today told me that it's critical for the Club's survival this year to run a 'Golden Goals' and a Raffle on all match days.

Speaking to me this evening, following Cray's 1-1 draw away to near neighbours Dartford, he said, "It's absolutely critical that we run a 'Golden Goals' and a Raffle at every home game. Although Carol (Curwood) does a great job on Saturdays by doing the 'Golden Goals' competition, we desperately need someone to perform the same job when Carol's not there at midweek games."

Gary continued, "Basically, if we don't run Raffle and 'Golden Goals' competitions at the Sutton (Tuesday 29 December 2009) and Dartford (2 January 2010) games, and continue them for the remainder of the season, we may seriously have to consider letting two more players go. I feel this could mean the difference between staying up, or being relegated."

Already this season, the Wands have had to release some of their first team squad, and further cuts would surely see the Club finish in one of the bottom four places.

Emphasising the seriousness of the current situation, Gary added, "Every other club we go to do those competitions and that goes towards the playing staff. Ian Jenkins is being disadvantaged because of this.

"We have some very loyal supporters who go to our games every week, and I am appealing to them to get in touch with the Club to help out, and to everyone to support them when we do have such help."

The management team has come in for some strong criticism, in recent weeks, so now perhaps it is time for those critics to volunteer to help the Club's progress.

The '100 Club' is also still short of it's intended target, and supporters who have not yet joined it are reminded that this initiative not only helps the Club, but three monetary prizes are up for grabs each month which they can win.

"I was hoping to see the 100 Club reach the magical century before Christmas," Gary mentioned, somewhat disappointedly. "We've currently got 70 numbers covered and I appreciate those members' support. But we've only got 30 places left to fill in order to hit the target. It would be nice to think that some of our supporters, who haven't joined the 100 Club yet, will do so in the next few weeks."

Gary Hillman is away on business now until the middle part of January, but anyone able to help us out on match days is asked to please contact either Kerry Phillips or Dave Jackson (click on their names to send them an email), or visit the Club's boardroom one and half hours before the game starts on match days.
