RYMAN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH—SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER 2007

MATCH REPORTER: MARTIN HODSON

This was a close match for the first seven minutes then it was one-way traffic towards the Horsham goal thereafter. Cray ‘keeper Glen Knight pulled off a fine save in the first few minutes but then it was a matter of when—and how many—the Wands were going to score.

The Wanderers created numerous chances without finding the back of the net, yet they kept knocking the ball about the field with aplomb whilst keeping their minds on their ultimate aim.

The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute, however, when Jamie Kempster diverted the ball home after it had flashed across the front of the goal.

Cray started the second half in similar style and, after having two goals disallowed and then hitting the woodwork, their hard work and persistence paid off when Michael Power headed the ball home from a well-worked cross from Colin Luckett.

Luckett was instrumental in the build up to the final two Wanderers’ goals as well when, firstly, his corner was headed home by Mark Willy in the 76th minute, and then another of his telling crosses was again headed home by Willy with 80 minutes gone.

This was a good workmanlike performance by the Wands against a side likely to struggle this season and sets up the team for a tough game on Wednesday night against league leaders Tooting & Mitcham United.
