WALTHAM ABBEY 0 CRAY WANDERERS 1 A combination of hard work and good luck sealed Cray's third win in a row, and being the team with the worst defensive record in the league (49 conceded), have now kept 3 clean sheets in succession. Cray had a very bright start in an overall dull game, taking the lead after just 5 minutes. Marcus Cassius superbly kept a long ball down the right wing in touch. His attempted cross fell to Dean Standen, whose cross was cleared as far as Rob Quinn on the edge of the penalty area. He leapt and headed the ball into the path of Leigh Bremner who stabbed home a superb opener into the bottom corner, cementing his return from injury. Pat Brennan was kept busy in the Cray goal, picking up loose balls as well as having the occasional cross to deal with. His kicking was consistent and at times a threat to the Waltham defence. Mark Willy saw a header from a corner saved well by the keeper and Bremner did manage to bundle the ball into the net again but his effort was ruled out for offside. That was all for the first half of what was, overall, a very poor game from two teams who are fighting for their Ryman Premier lives. The pitch was boggy where the frozen areas had melted, leaving the likes of Cassius, Standen and Ross Lover struggling to play their usual football game. George Porter replaced Standen on 54 minutes and, despite his lively attitude, he couldn't brighten up the very dull game. On 66 and 72 minutes, Waltham Abbey had two golden chances but miraculously missed both, by the same striker. First John Guest failed to clear and when a ball was squared past Brennan the home striker had just four yards to finish from but some how managed to scuff the ball wide. Then again, when the ball was past Brennan, he scooped the ball over from under the cross bar! Before the end of the game Bremner fired over from 10 yards following a superb run by Cassius and fired wide when threaded through by his strike-partner. In the dying seconds, Waltham 's Ayres was sent off for swinging him arms around. This was not for the first time but in this instance aimed at Porter. The home side managed to pick up 6 yellows cards with this sending off, mainly due to pedantic refereeing, as it was nowhere near a malicious game. Cray Wanderers : Pat Brennan, Ross Lover, Colin Luckett, Rob Quinn, Mark Willy, John Guest, Dean Standen, Tommy Tyne, Leigh Bremner, Marcus Cassius, Jamie Wood.
