WALTON CASUALS 2 CRAY WANDERERS 2

Ryman League Division One South—Saturday 2 February 2008

Report by Martin Hodson.

After having most of the first-half  possession and shots at goal, Cray found themselves two-nil down at the break. A fine strike from Chris Kiganda and some confusion in the Cray defence which allowed Steve Tyson in to sneak the ball past Glen Knight for the second did the damage.

However, at the start of the second-half, you could see why Ian Jenkins had been awarded the Manager of the Month award for January as the team came out with all guns blazing, with Danny Chapman at the heart of everything.

On 51 minutes Cray were awarded a free kick just outside the box and up stepped Colin Luckett to fire into the bottom corner of the net. This was followed up in the 61st minute when, following good work by Jamie Kempster and Ross Lover, a cross-shot by Lover went straight to Lewis Wood to score.

For most of the second-half Cray looked the team most likely to win. Had it not been for two excellent saves by Craig Bradshaw, the Casuals’ keeper, from a Ross Lover lob and a Tommy Whitnell shot then another three points would had been in the bag.
