NEW SIGNINGS AND FINAL RALLY CRY FOR PROMOTION
Chairman Gary Hillman confirmed with Trevor Mulligan tonight (Tuesday 31 March) that Cray Wanderers have re-signed fans favourite Michael Power from Carshalton Athletic. The Club has also signed Ugandan international Juma Ibrahim. Both signings have come before the transfer deadline.
Speaking tonight about prolific Wands goalscorer Michael Power (who has scored more than 50 goals for the Wanderers in previous appearances), after watching the Reserves demolish local rivals Dartford 4-0, Gary said: "Ian (Jenkins) was looking to strengthen the squad for the final push for promotion. Although one of our main rivals for the title was near to signing him today, we managed to get him signed before the 5 o'clock deadline.
"I have always felt Shaggy (Power) is suited to our style of play and has played his best football for us. He obviously can play at a higher level, so we are really excited he has 'come home' to help with the push for promotion."
Speaking about mystery signing Juma Ibrahim, the Chairman added: "We've been hearing good reports and have heard that he's been watched by a number of professional clubs, so Ian and myself watched him tonight play for the Ressies. He looked the part but, saying that, so did all 11 players. I don't think Ian would have any problem in asking any of them to join up with the first team."
The Reserves are currently in second place in the Kent League Division One and play leaders Thamesmead next. Gary retorted: "I am really pleased with the progress Mark and Darren have made with the Reserves and U18's lately and, with academy trials over the Easter holidays coming up, the future looks bright."
Speaking about the First XI's final five games in this season's epic Ryman League adventure, Gary went on: "I feel that the games coming up are some of the most important in our history. Having taken 25 from the last 30 points we are in superb form and playing well, but it's vital that our Supporters give us that extra push and give their all as well in all remaining matches.
"The Casuals game this Saturday is massive. They have just beaten the Met Police, are in good form and are battling to stay in this League, so it's going to be tough. I would say to our Supporters, please bring anyone you can. Your mum, nan, mates, etc., to help cheer us on. I know Jenko (Ian Jenkins) knows it makes a difference when everyone's positive and pulling together."
