RYMAN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH—SATURDAY 22 SEPTEMBER 2007

George Fenwick scored a hat-trick as Cray were emphatic 5-1 winners at Molesey.

It was a ruthless finish by Fenwick to put Cray ahead on 4 minutes after Moles were slow to clear their lines.

The lead was surrendered just two minutes later when Edghill gained the ball 35 yards out, in front of goal, and went past two tackles before stroking a low shot past Glen Knight.

Cray’s long-ball game wasn’t very creative but the pace of Junior Baker was always a threat, and he nearly forced the ball past Windegaard as he cut in towards the home ‘keeper from the left.

Forcing play from Jamie Kempster in midfield was more in evidence as the game wore on, with Jamie Wood also showing several neat touches.

An even first half saw Molesey have their fair share of chances, with Phillips demanding a good save from Knight after he broke through on goal.

It was a big let-off for Moles on 41 minutes when Fenwick stuck out a leg and reached a deep cross from Baker that everyone else assumed was going out of play. The ball was returned into the goalmouth where Dean Morris was unchallenged from six yards out, but his hasty shot flew wide.

Cray took control from the restart and their second goal arrived on 53 minutes after Baker’s forceful run was ended by a trip from behind.

With Brightwell required to leave the field for attention to a cut on his arm, ten-man Molesey were breached when Jamie Wood took the long-delayed free-kick. Kempster met the ball with a firm header that struck the bar and rebounded out to Baker, whose attempted shot became a perfect pass for Fenwick to net from close range.

Tyrone Sterling almost added an instant third but his shot fizzed wide after some clever footwork.

It was 3-1 to Cray on 62 minutes when Jamie Wood broke clear and squared the ball to Fenwick who was again on the spot to shoot home.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Cray who were lucky that Moles wasted two good chances with off-target shooting, but the last twenty minutes became one-way traffic as the home side faded badly and the Wands easily created openings on both flanks and through the middle.

On 80 minutes Baker headed into an empty net - his third goal in as many games - following a goalmouth scramble and a half-blocked shot from lively substitute Lewis Wood.

That goal started from a Cray throw-in deep on the right, and so did Cray’s final goal in the 90th minute, although in a more direct manner, started and finished by two of the Wands’ substitute players.

Alan Matthews, returning after injury, launched the ball into the goalmouth where Ryan Royston and Mark Willy leaped together with Windegaard as the ‘keeper tried to jump and gather. Willy got the last contact with his head to complete a miserable afternoon for the struggling home side.
