AS CRAY LIFT THE TROPHY, SHEFFIELD 'HERITAGE' TOURNAMENT VOTED A SUCCESS...
Saturday 31 July 2010 [Sheffield FC Website] [Hallam FC Website]
This unique tournament, staged by Sheffield FC, the oldest football club in the world and featuring the three oldest football clubs in the world, has been declared a success by everyone involved. In the first match at the BT Local Business Stadium in Dronfield, Sheffield, between local rivals Sheffield and Hallam, the 'home' club succumbed to a second-half strike to lose 1-0. This meant that Hallam, playing in the second game as well, only needed to beat Cray Wanderers to ensure they got their hands on the one-off trophy. Despite the first half of that game being all one-way traffic towards the Hallam goal, Cray found it difficult to break down the spirited Hallam defence. In fact, it took a last-minute header from Omar Smith to settle the score in Cray's favour. This set up the final game nicely, as Cray only needed to win by a one-goal margin (or draw the game and then win on penalties), whilst Sheffield needed to win by two clear goals. The game finished 2-1 to Sheffield, even though Cray were leading 1-0 at half-time. In time-honoured tradition, the tournament was settled by a penalty shoot-out between the two oldest football clubs in the world - Sheffield and Cray Wanderers! A 7-6 win to Cray followed. Sam Wright, playing in goal for the Wands, made a vital penalty save at 6-6. He was also named 'Player of the Tournament'. The Mayor of Sheffield awarded the trophies at 5.15pm. |

PLEASE COMPLETE OUR SANDY LANE SURVEY FORM
With the new ground planning application beginning to pick up pace, we have been advised by our planning staff involved with this project that, a more in-depth method of collecting everyone's thoughts (aside from the 'Back The Bid' wellwishers guestbook) is necessary.
Bearing this in mind, and wanting to ensure that the Club gets the best possible representation at future planning regulation meetings, a new downloadable survey form has been introduced. By clicking here, you will reach an editable pdf format survey form, which you can save to your computer's hard drive and then open it and type in your responses to the questions. By saving the completed form again, you can then send it to us as an email attachment to the address shown on the form.
Alternatively, you can print the form out directly from the pdf web page and fill it in manually with a pen and then post it in one of the collection boxes at the Hayes Lane ground on any home match day. Copies of the blank form will also be available at all Wands home games.
Thank you in advance for your input on these survey forms, and we will continue to gladly accept your kind comments on the 'Back The Bid' wellwishers guestbook. |
